Outdoor Activities for Kids

SCHOOL’S OUT FOR THE SUMMER!!! For 2020, this looks a lot different than our typical summer, but we still plan to make the most of it! Outdoor play is our favorite type of play. I have been scouring the internet for new games and things for the kids to play outdoors. Paired with some “oldie but goodies”, I have put together a list of outdoor FUN for you and your children.

1. Water balloons – OK, I would call these expensive, BUT they are totally worth it. About 3 years ago, I bought the water balloons that you fill up individually for my kids’ birthday party and my sister showed up with these! GAME CHANGER. I have bought 5 packs so far this year and will likely buy 100 more.

2. Sprinkler – We have had this sprinkler for a few years now and it still provides lots of entertainment. Can’t beat the price, either!

3. Bubbles – We love bubbles! I recently bought this bubble machine for the kids and it is a big hit. We also love the traditional bubbles and bubble wands.

4. Sidewalk chalk – If you have been around here for any length of time, you know we love chalk! I finally found some back in stock at a great price!

5. Scooters – Santa brought my kids scooters for Christmas and well, the big man hit it out of the park this year! I wish these scooters had odometers on them because I know we have gone several miles. We bought this 3-wheel scooter for our 3-year-old and she caught on really fast! She rides it all around the neighborhood, no problem! For my 5-year-old we bought this Razor scooter. Even though it was his first scooter, he caught on fast and is now trying to do tricks. The kids a helmet to go with your scooter! On our daily walks, the kids get tons of compliments on their cute helmets — this one for a girl and this one for a boy!

6. Watering can — I bought my kids a cheap watering can to help me water flowers and the garden at night. They LOVE having their own! Anything that involves water will entertain my kids for hours. A watering can is the perfect addition to your water toys. The kids are doing a chore and helping out mom all while having fun!

7. Cones — Set up your own obstacle course, drills for soccer, or a ring toss game. The options for these cones are endless. My kids love to pretend play that they are the gym teacher and they set up the cones as “stations”. Each station, they instruct us to do something like hop on one foot, jumping jacks, or dance. These cones are a great way to encourage imagination!

8. Kites — I bought this kite for all the kids for our family beach trip in February and they were a big hit! The kids got to color their own and we all went down to the beach to fly them. We have larger kites like these that we love to take to The Arboretum in town and fly.

9. Stomp Rocket — My son got this for his 5th birthday and it is really fun! The kids like to see whose rocket goes the highest or farthest and if they give their dad a turn, it ends up on the roof!

10. Sandbox — We love our sandbox! We have had this one (ours is the crab) for a few years now and the kids still play in it for hours. Whatever toys or shovels they would play with at the beach, work for the sandbox too!

Enjoy your summer! XO
