Family Game Night

We. LOVE. Games. Like, REALLY love games. It’s the best thing to get the whole family involved and having fun! I also like to use games as a learning tool. The kids are learning numbers, colors, counting, etc. while having fun. You don’t always have to sit down and do a worksheet to learn!

I blogged about our Family Fun Night at Home back in April and included a list of our favorite games at that time. We have added quite a few to the list and I have finally found the time to sit down and tell you about them!

Our Favorite Games

  • Uno Attack — This game takes a regular Uno game to the next level and I am here for it. There is a machine that shoots out cards. There are cards included in the deck that have your opponents push the button on the machine to see if they get extra cards. We laugh and laugh when the cards shoot out.
  • Wig Out — This $10 card game is a must have! It is so easy to toss in a bag and take on the go. It reinforces matching and it’s fast-paced. You are racing against your opponents to match up all the crazy hairstyle cards to be the first one out of cards and yell “WIG OUT!”. FUN for the whole family. My 4-year-old can even play this with very little help!
  • Eye Found It — Another great card game to toss in your bag and take on the go! My mom put this in the kids’ Christmas stocking a few years back and it has been a favorite since. If your kids love I spy games, this is a good one! My 4-year-old and 6-year-old can play on their own and really enjoy this game. Learning word recognition, too!
  • Color Brain — If you love Disney movies, you NEED this game! My sister introduced us to this game (and Wig Out) and my kids LOVE it! Each player gets a handful of colors and one person asks questions. The question cards ask the players to guess the colors of different things/characters/clothing/etc in Disney movies. Very fun! Kids of all ages can play because you are really just guessing colors if you don’t know the answer!
  • Hisss — This is, by far, my 4-year-old’s favorite game. She asks to play it daily. Sometimes several times a day. It is really a simple game. Players match colors and make snakes. The person with the most completed snakes at the end of the game wins!
  • A few more card games that we have really enjoyed playing are Too Many Monkeys and Slamwich. My kids both need help with these two games, but they will be perfect as they get older. Right now, they love being on mom and dad’s team!
  • Bug Bingo — OK, I have to say the pictures of the bugs are a bit much for me, but the kids love this game. Again, great for word recognition. The kids love to watch me squirm when the really nasty bugs pop up! If you have a bug-loving boy like me, this game is perfect.
  • I SPY Match Card Game — If you love I Spy, this is a great game for you. We LOVE all things I Spy. I think we have checked out all the I Spy books from the library multiple times. You can play this game as a traditional matching game OR it has fun other options, too!
  • Scrabble Jr. — This is the perfect game for a kindergartner or any child learning letters and early word formation. One side of the board has you match the letters to form the words which is perfect for the younger kids. The other side of the board has you form your own words. The game grows with the child.
  • Chill Out — Another Gamewright game that is fun! Not much to it, just roll the dice, scoop up the ice and try to be the cup with the most ice cubes at the end of the game! Easy for younger kids to play with a little direction from adults.
  • If you have a small kiddo, this card holder is a must! They can rarely hold all the cards in their little hands, so this card holder solves that problem and allows them to play independently!

Let me know what games your family loves to play together in the comments! I would love to add some new ones to our collection before winter gets here.

Have fun & stay well,

Angie

As your little ones get older they may enjoy an old favorite Yahtzee. It is another good game for adding numbers. And there are many games to play with a deck of cards. It is so important to gather as a family. The relationships strengthened through family activities are lasting!
